I have tried replacing the docking station with another of the exact model (D3100), didnt work. I updated the drivers - didnt work. I rolled back the drivers - didnt work. I downloaded the latest drivers from the dell website and manually suggested them for the device (it stated the drivers were up to date) so that did not work.

We are using Dell M3800's with D3000's and D3100's. They are buggy and our users constantly have issues with their displays and the Ethernet ports on these units. I have one right now where it will NOT recognize external displays nor the Ethernet port, but does recognize the USB ports.

We have updated, downgraded drivers, updated BIOS, switched to a different D3000, uninstalled/reinstalled and updated USB drivers, all with no joy. Also did not get much help from Dell tech support. My next step is to re-image the laptop and go from there. 8 digit code generator.

I am not really looking for a specific solution unless you know of something we haven't tried above, but more interested in seeing if this is a more wide spread issue. Thanks for listening. I have not heard of any massive layoffs yet, but there does not seem to be much happening in the quality control department.These connect using a USB 3.0 port, but we had one of the new Thunderbolt docks for a Precision 5510. Had to send it back as it failed miserably and I see it is no longer even offered as an accessory for that unit on Dell's website.
